Fees

A mixed billing clinic

Appointment information

We run on an appointment system but will deal with emergencies promptly without an appointment (patients without an appointment will incur a fee). Appointments with the doctor of your choice can be made in person, by phoning the surgery on 03 9799 2233, or online.

We normally allow 10 to 15 minutes per appointment; 6-week baby checks, mental health consultations and procedures require more time — please advise reception when booking if you need a longer consultation.

Cancellation fees apply for less than 2 hours' notice of cancellation or non-attendance. This fee does not qualify for a Medicare rebate.

Telehealth appointments

Fees are the same as for face-to-face appointments, allowing you to decide which type of appointment suits you best. To be eligible for a Medicare rebate for a telehealth consult, you must have been seen face-to-face at the clinic within the last 12 months.

Why we charge fees

Our doctors bulk-billed as many patients as possible for as many years as possible. With stagnant Medicare rebates and rising costs, we reduced bulk billing so our doctors can continue providing their usual comprehensive standard of care. The current Medicare rebate is well under 50% of the AMA's recommended fee for general practice consultations.

Current fee structure as of 1 July 2026. Doctors at Southern Cross Medical Centre have differing fee structures — indicative rates are below. For detailed fees, please refer to the individual doctor's website.

  • Procedures such as skin excisions, biopsies and sutures incur a procedure fee.

New patients

We welcome all new patients to our clinic.

We ask new patients to please arrive 10 minutes early to complete our new patient form — alternatively, download the form below and complete it prior to your appointment.

We request that all new patients book a double appointment, to allow your new doctor enough time to comprehensively perform an introductory assessment.

Communications & reminders

How we communicate with patients and third parties.

Face to face

Via consultation with your doctor or nurse, or interactions with other practice staff.

Telephone

Contact the practice during opening hours. Reception will ask for 3 points of identification to match your file. Doctors cannot be put through while consulting — our practice nurse can triage acute concerns, and a secure message can be sent to your preferred doctor for less urgent issues.

Fax

Correspondence received by fax is imported directly into your file and assigned to the addressed doctor. If your doctor is on leave, results are reviewed by the nominated covering doctor. Urgent faxes are assigned to the after-hours doctor.

Email

Email is not a secure form of communication and is not encouraged. Any emails we send are password protected, with the code sent to your phone by SMS.

SMS

We use an SMS reminder system for long appointments and recalls such as immunisations. Our clinic mobile number is 0474 266 659. Please let us know if you would prefer to opt out. If another person can access your mobile phone, confidentiality of these messages cannot be protected by the practice.

Post

For patients who have opted out of SMS, reminders and recalls may be sent by letter. Letters received by the practice are imported directly into your file and assigned to the addressed doctor.

Website

Our website is updated regularly with contact details, location, opening hours, fees and services, plus online booking and after-hours doctor details.

Facebook

Used for updates to practice hours and information. Our page is not monitored — please book an appointment for medical advice, as direct messages will not be responded to.

Communicating with patients with special needs

A contact list of translator and interpreter services, and services for patients with a disability, is maintained, updated regularly and readily available to all staff at reception. These include:

  • National Relay Service (NRS) for the hearing impaired
  • Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) Doctors Priority Line 1300 131 450

Our practice is committed to preventative care. If you do not wish to be part of our reminder system, please let us know.
